Pony Rides

Last weekend we headed over to the hobby farm for the Pony Rides for Charity event.   A local group was raising money for an orphanage in Africa–some of the teenagers were selling juice and caramel popcorn, there were hay rides and, of course, the “pony” rides.   The ponies were in truth some very beautiful horses which led to what was perhaps the inevitable question from Nora.  “Dad, when can we get our own pony”?  The caramel popcorn was also a hit and I guess we need to get the kids out more because it was a new concept for them that left them highly impressed.  Popcorn is good and who doesn’t like caramel but putting them together–brilliance!

Soap Box Derby

This last weekend was the Cub Scout Soap Box Derby or “Serp Box Derby” as Nora calls it.  The day started out perfect with warm temps but some cloud cover.  By the time the Tiger Scouts started racing at noon, however, the clouds had disappeared and the sun was out in force.  With plenty of sunscreen though we avoided any major sunburns.  For those familiar with Dhahran the race started at the top of Peninsula (the perimeter road) near Rainbow.  There is a good hill there and along with the starting ramp they managed to build up some speed as they raced towards the jebels.
