Random May Pictures

Here are a few random pictures from May – Nora’s dance pictures, Kai’s first big off-camp campout for Boyscouts as well as Art shows, Arabic presentations, Legos and more!

2012 Christmas Day

Kai and Nora were up by 6am and Ellen, Art and Karen didn’t arrive until 7am.  That gave them an hour to sort and stack the presents in different ways.    Nora was surprised by most gifts but Kai was pretty sure most thinks were Legos or books.   As he put it “what else would they be?”

Kai’s Art Show

A couple of weeks ago Kai’s art school had its big, end of year art show.  Kai submitted three pieces and, due to an overlapping appointment at an army themed birthday party ended up attending the show wearing a helmet and face paint.   Nora, however, know that this was a formal event didn’t miss the chance to wear a nice dress.

Just Like Grandpa

The other day at breakfast Kai announced to me that “Me and grandpa are pretty much the same”.   I said “oh?”  Kai replied “yeah, we both have big teeth.”   We have a collection of old family photos hanging in our living room and Kai was looking at the one of grandpa Art taken when he was in the 3rd grade.  Clearly a lot of personality traits can be traced back to the size of your childhood front teeth.

Memorial Day 2009

I was in the grocery store in Webster the other day with Kai.   As we were checking out he announced to the woman ringing up our groceries “I don’t have just two Grandma-Grandpas, I have two Grandmas and two Grandpas.”   How lucky we were that both the Wiemanns and the Jacobs were able to visit over the Memorial Day weekend.  Aunt Lea Ann and Cousin Nina also came for several days and Uncle Paul and Bev were able to stop by as well.  The weather could not have been better!

Fingerpaint!

The other day we sat down for art time and Kai and Nora selected fingerpaint as the media of the day.  I helped them put on art smocks, set out the bowls of paint and from there on out my only job was to move the finished pieces to the drying area and make sure that they had a steady supply of clean paper.

Before it Gets too Hot

There have been a couple of over 100 degrees days so far but for the most part the weather is still pleasant enough to be outside, even in the afternoon.  We are trying to take full advantage of it before the heat drives us indoors for most of the day.

Nora Sings

A couple of days ago Kai slipped and fell and hurt his mouth.  While he was in the ER (he is fine) with Mom, Nora and Dad broke out the paint to make a get well picture.  She sang the alphabet and numbers while she mixed paints (not much painting really) and Dad captured a bit on his cell phone camera.   In case you are wondering what she says she is painting towards the end of the clip it is a “pancake”.  That’s art!
