A Mostly Nora Gallery

Here are a few more recent pictures.  This one is a bit heavy on pictures of Nora.

Random Danbury Photos

Here is another Danbury gallery (these summer photos are not being posted in the order they were taken). It includes the delivery of the pizza oven and the start of the massive rain we had last week. Over 24 hours we had a little north of 9 inches of rain – never seen anything like it. Rivers flooded and roads closed but we are starting to dry out now. Enjoy!

A Little Desert Rain

This last weekend we’ve had some very occasional sprinkles but not much to write home about.  Pretty much just to make the windshields muddy.  Kain and Nora were playing outside with the Borns all afternoon and when the rain came through they didn’t miss a beat.

The New Fireplace

Our big project this summer was getting a fireplace installed in the house.  We really like the way it turned out.  On a warm humid day it doesn’t seem like such an accomplishment but when winter rolls in we are really going to appreciate it.   Here are a few photos of the install process.

Grandma and Grandpa Visit

I hope you all have had a wonderful 2009 and we are wishing you the best for a peaceful and prosperous new year!  We ended 2009 on a high note this year.  Grandma Ellen and Grandpa Art are over for a visit which is a special treat for Kai and Nora.  Also, it rained a little on new year’s day which is always a special event over here.

Look What We Are Missing

Kai and Nora in the Rain
Last night (Sunday, July 20) we had a brief but intense rain storm blow through in the early evening.  There was lots of rain but not much wind or lightning so it was a perfect time for the kids to get out on the deck with their umbrellas.  As the storm passed over we had a view of a really nice rainbow over the house. ((Towards the end it actually formed a double rainbow which I’ve seen only one other time.  If you look in the upper right corner of the rainbow picture you can see part of the second ring.))

As a counterpoint I thought I’d include a screengrab of what the weather was like in Dhahran as I’m writing this post.  A dust storm with temps of 117 and a dewpoint of 72.  It doesn’t get much worse than that.

Manifa in the Rain

I continue to play around with the blog format and I’m having lots of fun and learning a lot as well. ((Like how to include footnotes in my posts.  I also hope that the bugs are worked out of the subscribe option for new posts–I don’t think a notice when out last time.  If you’ve subscribed already, thanks!  If not, you can use the link at the top of the page if you want to get on the list.)) Right now I still use my old web design program to manage files and create the layout for these posts; however, that is probabably mostly out of habit.  I can get done all of the things I need to get done through the web interface so it won’t be long before I retire Dreamweaver at least for this site.

In other news we’ve been getting a little more rain lately.  Mostly overcast but with a few light showers on and off which is nice (especially when it hasManifa 650 in the rain thumbn’t been as cold)–however, it looks like this is going to end soon and things will clear up.   I don’t have any new pictures of the rain but I did take this panorama shot a couple of weeks ago when the kids were playing outside with thier umbrellas.  On the left side is the edge of our garage and on the right is the edge of our house on the other side so this is pretty much the full view of the front yard of Manifa 650.  If you look on the left side you can see two Kai’s and one and half Nora’s.  I built the panorama by stiching together multiple images that I took from the same spot.  While I stayed still the kids did not so they show up multiple times.
