The Siren Fly- In

Recently the Burnett County Airport in Siren help a fly in air show.  There were several vintage military planes as well as personal aircraft and firetrucks.   The most interesting thing (at least for Kai)?   The abundant grasshoppers on the grass fields.

The New Boat

The day after we arrived we scheduled delivery of our new Pontoon.  The nice folks from Hayward Marine showed up right on time (though so did the thunderstorms).   We got the run down on the boat operations in heavy rains though they cleared enough later for a nice ride.   We’ve been out daily since.

Spooner Rodeo Parade

Each year Spooner, Wisconsin hosts a major Rodeo that kicks off with a parade.  Since it is in early July it is hit and miss whether we are back in the US for it but this time we made it.   The weather could not have been better and it was a fine parade.  It was great spending time with Grandma Ellen and Grandpa Art but the highlight for the kids was certainly the tradition of throwing candy from the parade.  They each walked away with a few pounds!

San Diego

I recently spent a week in San Diego for a conference and was able to have an excellent meal with Jim and Monica.   Later Jim took me on a tour of his ship, the USS Thatch.  What a treat–Jim is an excellent tour guide.  I also learned that aluminum can achieve a self-sustaining burn and the tradition of the chiefs’ coin.
