Forts Folle Avoine Rendezvous

Last weekend was the annual Rendezvous at the Forts Folle Avoine just up the road from our house. As is now traditional the Post family joined us for what turned out to be a few days of fun (and record breaking cold temperatures).

Double Rainbow!

Lea Ann, Nina and Sara Post came to visit. The weather was on the cool side but was perfect for a campfire and, after a gentle sprinkle of rain, there was a double rainbow behind the house.

Duluth Huskies vs. Thunder Bay Border Cats

Last weekend we took in a Duluth Huskies game at historic Wade Stadium in Duluth. It was a hoot and Kai and Nora’s first introduction to baseball. Kai caught on to the whole strikes and balls thing but for both the highlight was the concession stands.

Nora settled for carmel corn. Both Kai and Nora were stoked for Cracker Jacks and were slightly disappointed they were not available.

The game went on for well over 3 hours

But Kai handled it well and enjoyed it.

She reported back that after an up-close inspection she was almost certain there was a person inside.

After the game the team lined up for autographs. Kai had bought a dark shirt so instead he put his favorite Udhailiyah shirt back on to get it signed.

They were beyond excited to get signatures from the whole team.

They are nervous about washing them and plan to write on a sample cloth with sharpie first to make sure the signatures won't come out.

Summer Science

It is the summer of science! Nora spent a good chunk of her allowance this year on science kits. So far we’ve done kitchen science, clean water science and we’ve been keeping a weather log since we arrived. Pretty cool stuff!

Here she is with her weather station and her solar water heater. We didn't get the heater going until later in the day so we didn't hit the 104F that we need to consider it a success.

The Spooner Rodeo Parade – 2013

Last Saturday we saw the Spooner Rodeo Parade with Grandma Ellen and Grandpa Art. As always it was a hoot and we even saw Uncle Jerry Miller driving a truck in the parade though we weren’t able to get his attention. There were multiple marching bands, fire trucks, and even a vintage Sherman tank and, as always, plenty of candy thrown from the floats for the kids to scramble for. Kai and Nora came away with quite a haul.

On the way into town we saw a Sherman tank idling in a parking lot. We were pretty confident it would be in the parade and we weren't disappointed.

Summer 2013 – The first few days

Here are a few pictures from the start of summer 2013. It has been an eventful few days with the delivery of our boat, the roof close to completion on the addition, attending Jerry Hanacek’s service and having a family get-together with Grandma Ellen, Grandpa Art, Uncle Jim and Ron and Sal Miller.

At night you can barely see outside so Nora has to put her face up to the glass to see if she can see our plane. "Dad, how do you spell KLM?"

Sour

Nora looks apprehensive but was simply experiencing the congnative shock of thinking she had a mint when instead she had a sour candy.

Scientist

Nora has a host of science experiments she's planned for the summer. Here is her weather station where we'll collect data over the summer.

The boat was dropped off right on time by Hayward Marine. Here we are tying up to the dock for the first time this summer.

Cub Scout Crossover

The last big scout event of each year is the Crossover ceremony where scouts are officially promoted to their ranks for next year. Here are a few pictures of the few representatives from den 14.

Kai and Nora’s Art Show

Kai and Nora each attend an excellent after school art class. They just ended their year and finished with a gallery show of the best of the year. There was great art on display and we couldn’t be more please with the experience they get working with Teresa.
