News from the Jacobs family in Saudi Arabia
November 20, 2018 was Kai’s Eagle rank Court of Honor. It was a wonderful ceremony with some touching reflections and much gratitude all around. (Scroll down for some video).

We didn’t come away with many videos of high quality but I have stitched together a few that turned out. In the first few we got caught up in their street dance parade where they circled the floats in the area in front of Cinderella’s castle and then invited all of the kids to join in and dance with the performers. Kai loved it – they dance as a warm-up in PE so he had a bunch of moves ready.  The second part of the clip shows Kai teaching Nora how to swashbuckle after they picked up some gear from Pirates of the Caribbean. I love how Nora puts her hand on her hip.

Here is a video of us at a beach in La Jolla Shores. The waves were a bit much for the kids so Crystal was doing her best to keep them out of the water. As I took the video I was standing in the (freezing) water up to my ankles – the dialogue is a bit hard to decipher due to the wind but it all revolves around Kai and Nora busting me for standing in water when they can’t.

Nora’s big activity this year was per-ballet dance class. She’s really enjoyed it and her dance recital was this last weekend. In the video below Nora is on the far left–she is the one dancing to a different drummer .
We are thankful that with such energetic spins no one near her got socked with a mermaid tail. Towards the end she gets very distracted by something off stage. Initially we thought the distraction was most likely an exasperated dance teacher wildly gesticulating for her to look forward and dance rather than stare off stage. We did investigate though and found out the attraction was the next group of little girls lining up for their dance number.  They had maracas mind you so it was totally understandable.

Every father is secretly pleased when his son takes a genuine interest is something that he also had a passion for as a child. Maybe it is sports or building models but whatever the case the shared interest is more that just an opportunity for the two to spend some enjoyable time together. It allows the father to revisit his own childhood and reconnect with some of the creative play that is often elusive in the adult world.

The weather is officially warming up and that means we are entering pool season.  These two pictures and video were from last week when we took an excursion to the kiddie pool at the Hills. These were taken on my cell phone and their quality impressed me.

A couple of days ago Kai slipped and fell and hurt his mouth. While he was in the ER (he is fine) with Mom, Nora and Dad broke out the paint to make a get well picture. She sang the alphabet and numbers while she mixed paints (not much painting really) and Dad captured a bit on his cell phone camera.  In case you are wondering what she says she is painting towards the end of the clip it is a “pancake”. That’s art!

Yesterday at the dinner table Nora started to sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. The best I had on hand was my cell phone camera so excuse the poor quality and slightly out of sync audio. Kai also sang Rain Rain Go Away which was cute as well. My favorite part was how she cut him off when he took over the song when she paused for a drink. She is clearly all Diva.
