Alert readers will remember that two years ago a failed expedition was mounted to Hidden Lake. There are no roads or paths to Hidden Lake and its existence was only noted by looking at a Google Earth view of the area around Danbury. Two years ago with over 2 feet of snow on the ground we set out to find it but ended up turning back short of our goal when grahm cracker provisions ran low.
This year we resolved to try again. On Jan 1, 2013 Ben, Kai and Nora set out to find the elusive lake and met with success! The pictures below document the amazing journey.

The terrain is a mess of uneven ground, undergrowth and sharp twigs at eye level. In the summer it is just about inpenetrable. In the winter it is bit easier to navigate with frozen ground and no bugs.

Making observation in the ice. There were clearly bubbles trapped in their but what made them? Gasses released by the decay of organic matter….or something more sinister. Nora thought she could make out some hieroglyphics.
Julie and I have closely followed the saga of the “Hidden Lake.” We read its epic conclusion with great anticipation. I trust the quartermaster packed adequate provisions to get ‘there and back again.’ Congrats on an entirely successful expedition.
