This gallery has been sitting in draft stage for almost a month – I had simply forgotten about it. I’ve got a whole slew of pictures coming off the camera now so I figured I better post it. Enjoy!
Random Pictures
Here are a few random pictures from the last few weeks – everything from artwork to school pictures. Enjoy!
The Golf Course Hotel
This last weekend we took a trip over to the Gulf Hotel in Bahrain. They have a nice kid’s pool there were we take Kai and Nora for a teppanyaki dinner at the Japanese restaurant now and again as a special treat. They are both convinced that it is the fanciest restaurant on the entire planet. Nora doesn’t need an excuse to get dressed up but Kai is a different story. Teppanyaki is the only thing I know of that he will willingly put on a collared shirt for.
In the week leading up to the trip Nora started referring to the hotel as the Golf Course Hotel. She probably heard “Gulf” hotel and thought “Golf Course”. Anyway, the name has now stuck.
The Lorax in Bahrain
This past 3-day weekend we decided it was high-time we took the kids out for a movie so it was over the causeway on Friday morning to Bahrain to see the Lorax at the City Center Mall. We attended a few more errands such as stocking up on Dachshund Chow at Pet Arabia and trolling the aisles at Jawad where Nora found dinosaur oatmeal she’s been craving for a year now. The highlight though was the Lorax. A great movie that we all really enjoyed.
A Bahrain trip with the kids
As a reward for a sustained improvement in table manners and general decorum Kai and Nora earned a trip over to Bahrain for a movie, dinner and a stay at the Gulf hotel which has a pool they love. The movie was Rango and dinner was a Tepanyaki treat. Kai and Nora were absolutely transfixed by the food being prepared at the table though Nora ate about a pound of edemame and little else.
A Trip to the Movies
Last weekend we headed over to Bahrain to catch a show and shop for a few things it is difficult to find here. We hadn’t been in a while but we needed to activate our new visas at any rate and things seemed calm. Nora clearly listens to dinner conversations as she made us promise to turn around and come home if we “see any war.” In the event we didn’t see any war at all and you wouldn’t know there was recent unpleasantness if it weren’t for the armored battalion camped around the remnants of the pearl roundabout.
Waiting for the movie to start we hit a coffee shop across the mall where I snapped a few pictures with the iphone.

A Visit With Uncle Jim
Yesterday we were able to drive across the causeway and spend a day visiting with Uncle Jim, Aunt Julie, Uncle Eric and Evelyn as well as a shipmate of Jim’s that joined him. It a typical hot and humid day in Bahrain but a dip in the pool was nice and it was the first time Jim, Ben and Julie have been in the same place for quite some time!
Jim Arrives!
Jim flew into Bahrain earlier today and we were able to get over the causeway and welcome him! I thought this was worth posting a picture on the blog. We were thinking that the last time he saw Nora was when she was about 9 months old! As we were driving away though she did remark that she may go live with Uncle Jim because he was so nice.
Grandma Ellen and her Three Grandkids
Recently Grandma Ellen flew in to Bahrain to visit baby Evelyn. By chance she was on the first set of flights to go right through European airspace so a lucky break there.
On her birthday we were able to head over and fix a nice meal for everyone and, while she was jet lagged, it was her first day with all three grandkids in the same spot. Enjoy the pictures.
Baby Evelyn was wonderful. She slept or cooed the whole time.
I’m sure she is always like that 😉
