Christmas 2021

Christmas break was spent with the kids here in Saudi.  They had a bit of an adventure getting back – first thier school recommended traveling students leave 5 days early so there was a scramble to change flights.  They got to the airport with travel COVID tests in hand and thier plane never took off.  They boarded but then deplaned a few hours later and, a few hours after that they were told the flight was canceled due to mechanical issues.   They spent the night in the delta staff lounge in Boston airport then routed through a quick connection at JFK the next morning followed by a Saudi flight direct to Riyadh and then a termial change and a connecting flight to Dammam.  Phew!   A long journey turned much longer but they made it in good spirits and with their luggage.

In other family news, our wonderful dog Webster passed away while the kids were here on break.   He is missed.

Christmas 2019

Here is a gallery from the family gathering for Christmas which included Paul, Lea Ann, Steve, Nina, Sara, Art, Ellen, Julie, Eric, Charlotte, Evelyn and Teddy. With the 4 of us as well it was a cozy house. We feel really fortunate that even with a short trip we were able to gather so many family together at the same time.

Christmas Traditions

Here are a few more pictures from Christmas Eve and Christmas day…

Jebels

Late on Christmas day we took a walk in the Jebels with the dogs. It was a great chance to get some fresh air and take a few more pictures.

Holiday Performance

A real treat during the Holiday season is the chance to see Crystal sing some “seasonal tunes”.

Christmas on Bass Lake

It was a wonderful Christmas day on Bass Lake.  Grandma Ellen and Grandpa Art arrived before the sun was up and we had a great morning opening presents and enjoying each other’s company.   Later in the day we had rain, freezing rain, howling winds and even some lightning.   Quite a day!

Bentlyville

Bentlyville is billed as the largest free, outdoor, walkthrough lights display in the USA.  That is a lot of qualifiers but Bentlyville does not disappoint and everything you need for a great visit really is free.   Free hot cocoa, free cookies, free popcorn, free marshmallows to roast – they are just handing it out.   The only thing they charged for was apparel in the gift shop but fair enough.  We had a great time!   It was good the we went in the middle of the week – crowds were still intense, I’d hate to see the place on a weekend!

Crystal’s performance in Handel’s most famous work

Crystal performs each winter in a seasonal production with a local choir. This is the third year of performing “Handel’s most famous work” and it was a fabulous show! Kai missed it due to other engagements but Nora and I had a great time getting dressed up for an evening of culture.

Christmas 2015

On Christmas we did the traditional cheese and meat fondue and made porridge for the reindeer before heading to bed. I apologize in advance for the blurry pictures. I had forgotten that I had turned the autofocus off for a time-lapse project I was doing.
It was a chilly and rainy on Christmas day. A rare weather treat. Nora slept on Kai’s bunk bed and they called us on the cell phone from the next room at about 5am to ask if the coast was clear to come out. A wonderful Christmas!
